New Delhi, Aug 2 (NationPress) Global smartphone revenues saw a remarkable increase of 10 percent year-on-year during the April-June quarter (Q2 2025), surpassing $100 billion (over Rs 8.7 lakh crore)—marking the highest revenue recorded in a second calendar quarter thus far, as per a recent report.
In contrast, global shipments experienced only a modest 3 percent year-on-year growth during this period, according to the latest Market Monitor service from Counterpoint Research.
Additionally, the global average selling price (ASP) reached a second-quarter peak, climbing 7 percent YoY in Q2, nearing $350.
Despite ongoing macroeconomic challenges in several major regions, the market saw both volume and value growth. Thanks to the easing of US tariffs, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) were able to capitalize on strong demand for premium devices, particularly in developed markets, noted senior analyst Shilpi Jain.
The trend of premiumisation has accelerated beyond earlier estimates, fueled by expanded financing options, improved trade-in programs, and increased promotional efforts—effectively lowering the entry barriers for higher-end devices.
Research Director Jeff Fieldhack commented that Apple strengthened its revenue lead, bolstered by strong sales of the iPhone 16 series across various regions, benefiting from the broader premiumisation trend. “Shipments in the US were front-loaded in the quarter due to tariff uncertainties. Furthermore, the iPhone 16e proved particularly successful in Japan, making it one of Apple’s fastest-growing markets. Emerging regions, including Middle East Africa and India, continue to display robust growth,” he added.
Samsung maintained its leadership in global smartphone shipments during Q2 2025, with a revenue increase of 4 percent YoY. The brand's success was predominantly driven by strong demand for its updated mid-tier A-series devices across various markets, while the Galaxy S25 series and the newly launched S25 Edge contributed to volume growth in the premium segment.
“Looking forward, we anticipate that the trend of premiumisation will persist, with revenue growth likely to outstrip volume growth in 2025. Moreover, burgeoning interest in GenAI smartphones and foldable devices is expected to present considerable growth opportunities for the smartphone sector,” the report highlighted.
