Chennai, Sep 22 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, officially introduced Chennai One on Monday. This innovative app is recognized as India’s first fully integrated public transport mobile platform, unifying all urban transportation modes in the bustling metropolis of Chennai.

The unveiling occurred at the Secretariat during the second assembly of the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA), which was presided over by the Chief Minister.

During this session, a detailed 25-year transport master plan for the Chennai metropolitan region was also sanctioned, with the objective of facilitating seamless mobility for the city’s expanding population.

The Chennai One app, accessible on both iOS and Android, empowers commuters to plan and pay for their entire journey encompassing buses, suburban trains, metro rail, auto-rickshaws, and taxis.

Described as a transformative development for urban mobility in India, the app enables passengers to purchase tickets digitally via UPI or bank cards, utilizing a singular QR code for travel across various transport modes.

In addition to digital ticketing, the application offers real-time tracking of buses and suburban trains, enabling commuters to better manage their schedules.

To enhance accessibility, the platform accommodates multiple Indian languages, including Tamil, English, Telugu, and Kannada, catering to the city’s diverse demographic.

Officials emphasized that the app’s integrated framework aims to alleviate the inconveniences of switching between transport providers, standing in long queues at counters, and juggling multiple tickets.

By optimizing services, the state government aspires to promote increased public transport usage, which would help alleviate congestion on Chennai’s crowded roads and lower carbon emissions.

In his remarks during the app launch, Chief Minister Stalin stated that this initiative represents a significant advance toward creating a modern, commuter-friendly Chennai.

"With Chennai One, we are setting a precedent for urban mobility that embodies inclusivity, efficiency, and sustainability. Our ambition is to make public transport the top choice for every citizen," he remarked.

Transport specialists have lauded this initiative, recognizing that integrated ticketing and real-time updates have long been sought after by urban commuters.

The 25-year transport master plan ratified alongside the app launch will encompass infrastructure enhancements, expansion of metro and suburban networks, and improved last-mile connectivity. Through Chennai One, the city has established a new standard in digital public transport integration, positioning Chennai at the forefront of India’s urban mobility evolution.
