Chennai, Nov 13 (NationPress) In an impactful initiative aimed at transforming agricultural practices and reinforcing land-survey activities, the Tamil Nadu Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Corporation (TNUAVC), operating under the Higher Education Department, has initiated the procurement of DGCA-certified agricultural drones and survey-grade drones.
A senior department official confirmed that both types of drones have successfully passed stringent evaluations by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), complying with all safety, performance, and operational standards.
“The DGCA type-certification is essential for any drone intended for official use. It guarantees safety compliance and makes them eligible for government subsidies and institutional loans,” the official remarked.
TNUAVC has issued tenders for the procurement of both drone types. As per the official, the lightweight agricultural drones, crafted from robust carbon fiber, are designed to deliver comprehensive technological solutions for farmers.
These drones feature precise spraying systems, customized nozzles, and reliable anti-interference antennas to facilitate uninterrupted field operations. They are also equipped with advanced safety mechanisms such as early-warning alerts and automatic return-to-home capabilities.
“The drones can accurately spray pesticides based on plant growth patterns and field density. They are user-friendly and will come with a flight-crash warranty,” he added.
The state government aims to acquire approximately 50 such agricultural drones. In addition, TNUAVC will also obtain survey drones engineered for highly accurate aerial mapping of land and other necessary areas.
These drones will be equipped with sophisticated imaging systems capable of capturing clear, non-pixelated images and high-definition video footage, ensuring enhanced land records, planning, and monitoring.
The official noted that the survey drones are designed with strong data-security features that automatically restrict unrecognized users from accessing or receiving data. They are also built to operate in diverse terrains and endure extreme temperatures, considering Tamil Nadu’s climatic variations.
By integrating these advanced drone technologies, the state government aims to improve precision agriculture, optimize land-survey operations, and broaden the application of modern technological tools in governance and development efforts. The procurement process is anticipated to progress in the upcoming weeks, after which the drones will be gradually deployed across various regions of Tamil Nadu.
