New Delhi, June 10 (NationPress) The past 11 years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have witnessed remarkable transformations in the fields of science, education, and technology in India, stated Dr. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, on Tuesday.

In an interview with IANS, Kamakoti referred to this period as a 'golden era', marked by several successful national initiatives — from the cleanliness mission to the development of Covid vaccines, alongside a surge in startups and the effective application of emerging technologies.

He emphasized that India faced a significant challenge in vaccine development during the devastating Covid-19 pandemic.

"We not only succeeded in creating two Aatmanirbhar vaccines but also extended our support by donating them to several nations in need. This achievement was made possible under the exemplary guidance of PM Modi," he remarked.

Kamakoti also pointed out how the Union Budget has prioritized the development of Sustainable Cities, agriculture, health, and Centres of Excellence in education.

He acknowledged the government's role in promoting AI and other emerging technologies, which are crucial for enhancing human capacity and driving national growth.

"Several national missions focusing on critical and emerging technologies have been instrumental over the past 11 years. The National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems, the National Quantum Mission, and the National Semiconductor Mission are three pivotal initiatives that have significantly contributed to building expertise in these areas," he explained.

According to Kamakoti, these missions are not only research-oriented but also aim to cultivate entrepreneurship and innovation skills among the youth of our nation.

Furthermore, he noted a marked increase in startup growth over the last 11 years, with many progressing to higher funding stages and moving towards becoming unicorns.

Another aspect that improved significantly is the patenting process, which has become much more streamlined compared to previous decades, as highlighted by Kamakoti.

Additionally, he emphasized the advancements in higher education and research during this period.

"The Prime Minister Research Fellowship motivates PhD students to engage in high-caliber research with substantial funding and scholarships," Kamakoti stated.

He also mentioned the National Research Fund, which is set to transform the research landscape in India.
