During an event in Mumbai on Monday, former captain Mithali Raj and ex-India allrounder Yuvraj Singh joined a panel of stars to discuss the upcoming tournament alongside India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, batter Jemimah Rodrigues, and ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta.
“The return of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 to India arrives at a crucial moment for the women’s game, setting the stage for a truly world-class competition that will further enhance the sport’s global profile.
“At the ICC, we are eager to welcome innovative ideas and are continuously seeking ways to maintain the positive trajectory of women’s cricket. Discussions like today’s panel are essential in shaping our collective vision and propelling progress forward.
“With only 50 days remaining until the tournament kicks off, preparations are in full swing, and the excitement is palpable. I wish all participating teams the best as they prepare for this challenge. I am confident they will have a memorable experience in India and Sri Lanka,” Shah stated in an ICC announcement.
The tournament is scheduled from September 30 to November 2, featuring a round-robin format among eight teams: Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
This event will mark the first women’s global cricket tournament in the subcontinent since India hosted the 2016 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. India has previously held the Women’s ODI World Cup in 1978, 1997, and 2013.
The ICC also announced a Trophy Tour that will visit all host cities along with New Delhi and Mumbai, commencing Monday. The trophy will stop at iconic locations, allowing fans to follow its journey through a dedicated Instagram channel.
As part of an extensive school legacy initiative, the trophy tour will also visit several schools in each host city. The ICC mentioned that they, along with the BCCI, are collaborating with stakeholders to give select schools the opportunity to attend ODI World Cup matches.
