Dubai, Oct 9 (NationPress) The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the inaugural ICC Women’s Cricket Week, an important initiative designed to enhance and celebrate the women’s game on a global scale.

This event is scheduled to occur from October 16 to 22, coinciding with the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, hosted in India.

The ICC Women’s Cricket Week will be an annual occurrence aimed at boosting the visibility, involvement, and recognition of women’s cricket worldwide. The initiative urges national governing bodies to engage in meaningful and locally relevant ways, ensuring that the celebration of women’s cricket permeates communities across the globe.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah commended the initiative as a significant milestone in the evolution of the sport, highlighting the remarkable momentum surrounding women’s cricket recently. “This year has already been pivotal for women’s cricket, witnessing record-breaking audiences, historic performances, and an undeniable surge of enthusiasm around the game,” said Shah. “The introduction of the ICC Women’s Cricket Week marks another proud milestone—a celebration not only of the elite players but of every girl who dares to dream and pick up a bat or ball. It provides our Members, from Full to Associate, a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the global narrative and influence the future of women’s cricket within their communities.”

The initiative received earlier endorsement from both the ICC Women’s Cricket Committee and the ICC Chief Executives’ Committee, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to bolstering women’s cricket at all levels. It aligns with the ICC’s broader mission to establish sustainable frameworks that enhance participation, leadership, and visibility for women in the sport.

Multiple Full Members have already pledged support for the campaign with innovative strategies that will accompany the global celebration. The England and Wales Cricket Board will focus on promoting recreational cricket and generating excitement ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. In South Africa, Cricket South Africa is set to host a full-day event at the high school of Proteas wicketkeeper Karabo Meso, featuring a panel discussion, mini-cricket matches, and a friendly game with former South African players. New Zealand Cricket has organized a “Mini World Cup” for young girls to inspire early engagement with the sport.

Numerous Associate Members have also voiced their support, with activities centering around three primary areas: community watch parties to unite fans and elevate awareness of women’s cricket; educational initiatives for female coaches and educators to address the shortage of women leaders in the sport; and events promoting women’s participation, such as local festivals and competitions organized under the ICC’s criiio program.
