A Memorable Innings: Tendulkar Applauds Nitish Reddy's First Test Century

New Delhi, Dec 28 (NationPress) Cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar expressed his admiration for India's emerging all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy following his remarkable first Test century on the third day of the Boxing Day Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Saturday. Reddy's unbeaten score of 105 led a resilient Indian comeback as they posted 358/9, trailing Australia by 116 runs. Tendulkar, impressed by the young player's composure and temperament, took to social media to praise the innings that kept India competitive in the fourth Test.
"A memorable innings from Nitish. He has consistently impressed me from the first Test, and his composure has been evident throughout. Today, he elevated his performance to play a vital innings in this series. He was wonderfully supported by @Sundarwashi5 as well. Excellent work!" wrote Tendulkar on X.
Nitish Kumar Reddy came to bat at a challenging juncture for India, who were at 221/7 after the dismissals of Rishabh Pant (28) and Ravindra Jadeja (17) early in the morning session. Unfazed by the increasing pressure, the 21-year-old demonstrated incredible poise and determination, showcasing his ability to rise against a strong Australian bowling attack.
Reddy's innings, featuring 10 boundaries and a massive six, reflected a superb mix of caution and aggression. He batted for over five hours, skilfully steering India away from danger and ensuring the team avoided the follow-on. His partnership with Washington Sundar, which amounted to 127 runs for the eighth wicket, was crucial for India's resurgence.
Sundar, who added a significant 50, played an essential supporting role, enabling Reddy to stabilize the innings. Together, they thwarted the Australian attack, disrupting their rhythm and keeping India alive in the match.
This innings further showcased Reddy's impressive consistency throughout the series. Prior to his heroics at the MCG, he had made valuable contributions with scores of 41, 38 not out, 42, and 16 across five innings in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
With India still behind by 116 runs, Reddy's role will remain crucial as he continues batting with Mohammed Siraj on day four.
