Brisbane, Nov 8 (NationPress) Abhishek Sharma has etched his name in the record books by scoring 1,000 runs in T20 Internationals, achieving remarkable world and Indian milestones. He reached this landmark during India’s fifth and final T20I against Australia at The Gabba on Saturday.

Sharma became the quickest player to achieve this feat for a single nation in terms of balls faced, and also the fastest Indian based on matches played. His record-breaking achievement eclipsed the previous global mark held by Australia’s Tim David, who reached 1,000 runs in 569 balls while scoring 74 off 38 balls in Hobart on November 2.

India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was previously second with 573 balls faced, while New Zealand’s Finn Allen was third at 611 balls. In total balls faced across T20Is, David now ranks sixth, having faced 614 balls to score his 1,000 runs, including appearances for both Singapore and Australia.

Additionally, Sharma came close to breaking Virat Kohli's record, who achieved 1,000 runs in 27 innings across 29 matches, while Abhishek reached the milestone in just 28 innings. Thus, he is the fastest Indian to 1,000 runs in T20Is based on matches played.

Although Abhishek holds the record for the fastest achievement in terms of balls faced, the record for the fewest matches to reach this milestone is jointly held by England’s Dawid Malan and the Czech Republic's Sabawoon Davizi, both accomplishing it in their 24th match.

Moreover, India’s Sanju Samson (995 runs) and Tilak Varma (991 runs) are close to the 1,000-run mark in T20I cricket but were not included in India’s playing XI for the decisive match against Australia.

It’s also noteworthy that Abhishek Sharma faced two close calls, first before achieving the 1,000-run milestone and again during the match in the first 11 balls he played.
