London, Jan 27 (NationPress) Manchester United's head coach Ruben Amorim has playfully indicated that his brief two-month tenure at the club has taken a toll on him, making him feel 50 instead of the 40 he will celebrate on Monday.

In a light-hearted manner, Amorim remarked on BBC Match of the Day 2, "It's not 40... I'm 50! After two months at Manchester United, it's 50!" He expressed his appreciation for being able to celebrate his 40th birthday at the club.

United gifted him an early birthday treat with Lisandro Martinez's deflected shot leading to a 1-0 victory over Fulham, despite Amorim declining a request from players for a day off on Monday.

In response to a question regarding Marcus Rashford's continued absence, Amorim humorously stated that he would prefer to field his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach, Jorge Vital, instead of Rashford unless the player improves his training and overall commitment.

Rashford has been omitted from the squad for an 11th straight match, having last played in the UEFA Europa League against Viktoria Plzen on December 12.

Amorim clarified, "It’s always the same reason. The criteria are training and the expectations I have for players in their daily lives. If things don’t improve, my stance won’t change. Every player is treated the same. If players give their best every day, they will be utilized. We lack speed on the bench, but I would choose Vital over anyone not giving their all," he added.

This victory marks United's third away win of the league season, elevating them to 12th place in the standings, as their attention shifts back to the UEFA Europa League amidst a hectic January schedule.

A trip to Romania is next for Amorim's squad as they face FCSB on Thursday, knowing that another win will secure their place in the competition's Round of 16.
