Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Jan 11 (NationPress) Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti and Barcelona's Hansi Flick opted for discretion regarding the controversy surrounding Dani Olmo, a Spanish international, just before the Spanish Super Cup final between their teams. Both Olmo and Pau Victor were authorized to compete in the match, despite existing Spanish league regulations stating that a player cannot be registered with the same club more than once in a single season.
The registrations of Olmo and Victor with Barcelona lapsed on December 31 due to financial regulations, prompting several clubs in Spain, including Atletico Madrid, Valencia, and Espanyol, to issue statements opposing the ruling.
When questioned about the implications of Olmo scoring in the upcoming final on Sunday, Ancelotti responded tactfully, stating, "It would signify that we were unable to contain a player that was widely recognized." The Italian coach also noted that midfielder Jude Bellingham had "recovered well" following a muscle issue he experienced during Thursday's semifinal against Mallorca.
"All players are fit, and we are feeling positive and ready," Ancelotti remarked, while also anticipating a different match from the 4-0 loss Barcelona handed to his team in La Liga back in October. "We must reflect on our previous encounter where they triumphed, and we've analyzed what transpired in that game," he emphasized.
Regarding Olmo's circumstances, Flick suggested that the summer acquisition might not be included in the starting XI, with Gavi expected to retain his position. "Gavi performed exceptionally against Athletic in the semifinal. He exhibited confidence and contributed significantly to the team. I believe Gavi will feature," he stated during his press conference.
The German coach also communicated to his players the importance of disregarding the surrounding controversy, emphasizing the need for them to remain "unified and resilient," and to shut out "external distractions."
