Madrid, March 28 (NationPress) Following reports that Brazil is seeking a successor for current head coach Dorival Jr after their disappointing 1-4 defeat to Argentina, Carlo Ancelotti, who is rumored to be the leading candidate for the position, clarified that he has not been contacted by the national team and remains under contract with Real Madrid.
The Brazilian team, the most successful in FIFA World Cup history, has not secured the title since 2002 and is looking beyond Dorival in hopes of mounting a serious challenge in the 2026 World Cup.
“I don’t recall discussing this with Ronaldo. My contract is explicit, and I have nothing further to say. I hold great affection for the Brazil National Team, their players, and their supporters, but I am committed to Real Madrid,” Ancelotti stated in a press conference.
“No, they simply have not (reached out),” he added.
Ancelotti also commented on the investigation initiated by UEFA against Antonio Rudiger, Vinícius Jr, Kylian Mbappe, and Dani Ceballos regarding their celebrations following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Atletico Madrid in the UCL Round of 16.
If UEFA decides to impose any bans on players, it could jeopardize their upcoming high-stakes match against Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
“We trust UEFA to conduct their investigation. We believe everything was appropriate; the players celebrated. We will await their findings and are optimistic everything will resolve positively,” he added.
The Italian manager also addressed comments made by La Liga President Javier Tebas regarding remarks about Real Madrid and allegations of a ‘lack of respect’ directed towards the club.
“I was aware of his obsession with Real Madrid, but I was not aware he aspired to coach. As I have mentioned before, he should concentrate on his own matters. He is showing a bit of disrespect towards Real Madrid and its coaches,” Ancelotti concluded.
