Is Ancelotti Ready to Lead Brazil to World Cup Glory?

Rio de Janeiro, May 27 (NationPress) Carlo Ancelotti declared on Monday that his primary goal as the newly appointed head coach of Brazil is to secure the nation’s sixth World Cup title, aiming to end a 24-year drought in reaching the pinnacle of football.

Ancelotti was formally introduced at a press conference held in Rio de Janeiro, just two days after concluding his time with Real Madrid, where he amassed a remarkable 15 trophies over two tenures, according to reports from Xinhua.

"It’s a privilege to lead the greatest national team in the world," remarked the 65-year-old.

"I am fully aware of what is anticipated from me. The mission is to clinch the World Cup next year and help Brazil reclaim its top position. I am thrilled about this chance."

Earlier this month, Ancelotti was appointed as the successor to Dorival Junior, who was let go following Brazil’s 4-1 defeat to Argentina in World Cup qualifiers.

The Italian coach expressed that he was attracted to this role due to Brazil's rich football heritage and his long-standing bond with the country.

"My relationship with Brazil began in the 80s when I played alongside Falcao and (Toninho) Cerezo at Roma," he stated. "Since then, I have coached numerous Brazilian players who have always balanced seriousness with enjoyment on the field."

He further added, "I have visited many places, but Rio was a missing piece. Now that I am here, I feel at home."

Focusing on the immediate challenges, Ancelotti will prepare the team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers—first against Ecuador on June 5, followed by a home match against Paraguay five days later.

Currently, Brazil holds the fourth position in the 10-team South American qualifying standings, with four matches left. The top six teams will qualify automatically for the 2026 World Cup set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, while the seventh team will enter an intercontinental playoff.

Ancelotti has announced a squad that marks the return of Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison, and Real Betis winger Antony. However, star player Neymar has been left out as he works on regaining his form and fitness post a serious knee injury.

"I have aimed to select players who are in peak physical condition," Ancelotti noted. "Neymar has just returned from injury. He remains a significant player and is still part of our plans.

"He is among several players currently unavailable. Brazil boasts numerous talented athletes, and we certainly continue to have faith in Neymar. We hope he can regain his top performance and be fit for the World Cup. I spoke with him today, and he comprehends the situation."

When asked if Brazil would adopt the same attacking strategy as Real Madrid, Ancelotti was cautious.

"After 40 years in management, I am still uncertain about the best methods to win matches," he confessed. "However, I understand that the strategy should align with the players' traits on the field to ensure they feel comfortable in their roles.

"That’s my vision here—enjoying and maximizing the incredible quality these players possess, while ensuring all this talent is directed towards our ultimate goal: winning the World Cup."
