Mumbai, Dec 31 (NationPress) Olympic Champion Andre De Grasse has been appointed as the International Event Ambassador for the 21st edition of the Mumbai Marathon, a prestigious World Athletics Gold Label Race, scheduled for January 18.

Recognized as one of the most talented sprinters of his time, De Grasse has emerged as a global athletics leader, inspiring millions around the globe. His remarkable journey began in modest circumstances, having been discovered sprinting in basketball shoes and borrowed spikes during a local competition, marking the initiation of a phenomenal career.

Currently, De Grasse stands among the top athletes in world athletics, with an impressive collection of seven Olympic medals. His significant breakthrough occurred at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where he achieved silver in the 200m and bronze in both the 100m and 4x100m relay.

He solidified his legacy at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, securing gold in the men’s 200m and reaching the podium in both the 100m and the 4x100m relay. Most recently, during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he displayed exceptional leadership by anchoring Canada to gold in the men’s 4x100m relay.

De Grasse has also shone at the World Championships, amassing six medals over five events, including a gold medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, further reinforcing his position as one of the era's most influential sprinters.
