New Delhi, July 16 (NationPress) Following a triumphant return to Test cricket with England's 22-run victory at Lord's, fast bowler Jofra Archer expressed his eagerness to participate in the remaining Tests against India. He aims to demonstrate that he is worthy of a spot in the squad for the upcoming Ashes tour in Australia.
Archer, who made his Test comeback after a four-year hiatus, took five wickets as England secured a narrow win over India, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series contested for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
However, England remains cautious regarding Archer's workload due to previous elbow and back injuries that have affected his availability for Test matches.
"I can play the other two if they let me. I don’t want to lose this series. I told Keysy (ECB managing director Rob Key) that I wanted to play the Test summer and I wanted to play the Ashes. I think one tick is already there, and I will do everything possible in my power to be on the plane in November, or just before," Archer stated.
He also shared his joy about his return to the Test squad under the leadership of captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum. "Test cricket is the format that would have taken the most time to come back to. I played 50-over and T20 formats for the past year and a half," he added.
"I believe the mentality of the team under Baz suits my style of play, so I was eager to get back and perform. Everyone put their bodies on the line, and it would be unfair if I didn’t do the same. Most of the last day is a blur. It’s great to bowl fast, but getting wickets is what matters most," he concluded.
The fourth Test between England and India is set to commence on July 23 at Old Trafford in Manchester, followed by the fifth and final match of the series at The Oval in London from July 31 to August 4.
