Asian Esports Games: Pavan Kampelli Triumphs Over Former Champion to Claim Bronze in eFootball

New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) Pavan Kampelli clinched a bronze medal in eFootball at the 2024 Asian Esports Games (AEG) held in Bangkok, Thailand, marking India’s first-ever podium finish in a football sports simulation esports competition.

During his journey to securing the bronze, Pavan triumphed over the 2022 eFootball World Finals Champion (Mobile), Asgard Azizi from Team Indonesia, with a score of 2-1.

Pavan faced off against top eFootball competitors from around Asia and endured a challenging start against the eventual champion, TXRO of Team Thailand. Nevertheless, he displayed incredible determination, recovering with hard-fought victories against players from Indonesia, Syria, and Laos, all ending with identical 2-1 scores, solidifying his historic bronze medal.

This outstanding performance propelled Pavan to the Lower Bracket Final, where he fought bravely against TXRO for a chance to compete in the Grand Finals, ultimately succumbing to a narrow loss.

"Winning this bronze is surreal. It’s a tremendous honor to represent India and bring home our first-ever medal in eFootball. The competition was fierce, but I’m proud of my journey through the bracket. This is merely the start, and I’m eager to achieve more in future tournaments," stated Pawan.

Along with the bronze medal, Pavan received USD 500 for his remarkable performance. Originating from Sultanabad, Pavan’s accomplishment is set to enhance awareness of esports in a region where competitive gaming is still emerging.

His success comes on the heels of an unbeaten streak in Phase 1 of the WAVES Esports Championship eFootball, where he secured the top position and a spot in the Grand Finale set for February 2025.

Lokesh Suji, the Director of Esports Federation of India (ESFI), who presented the medals to the winners, expressed his pride in Pavan’s accomplishment: "As an Indian, it was a moment of immense pride and joy for me to award this historical medal to my fellow countryman. Pavan’s bronze is a testament to India’s rising strength and talent in esports."
