The second half belonged entirely to Villa. Buendía turned provider in the 57th minute, jinking down the left wing before crossing for Rogers to finish simply at the near post and make it 3-0. Amadou Onana came within millimetres of adding a fourth, heading John McGinn's corner against the post, before Villa settled for a commanding three-goal winning margin.

Emery Makes History With Three Different Clubs

Unai Emery has become the first manager in history to win the UEFA Cup/Europa League with three different clubs — Sevilla (three times), Villarreal (2020/21), and now Aston Villa. Remarkably, all three clubs share the word 'villa' in their names. This is the third new winner of the competition in the last six seasons, following Atalanta in 2023/24 and Emery's own Villarreal in 2020/21.

Villa are now the 31st different winners of the UEFA Cup/Europa League and the sixth English club to lift the trophy.

Freiburg's Dream Falls Short

For Freiburg, the defeat is a bitter end to their maiden European final appearance. The German side showed courage throughout the competition but ultimately could not match Villa's quality on the night. They will return to European competition next season in the Conference League play-offs.
