Birmingham, April 14 (NationPress) Unai Emery is aiming to make history as Aston Villa welcomes Paris Saint-Germain for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final at Villa Park, which is significant as it is the first time a European top-tier quarter-final has taken place there since 1983.
Emery’s team is determined to overcome a 3-1 deficit from the initial leg in Paris as they strive for a place in the semi-finals of this prestigious European tournament. Aston Villa heads into this highly anticipated match with an impressive record of 17 consecutive home matches without defeat, a streak that dates back to late November.
“I have had experiences of making comebacks, both successful and unsuccessful, in different contexts. However, this situation is unique. We aim to make history with Aston Villa here. Last year in the Conference League and this year in the Champions League, with hopes of sustaining that success in Europe for a long time,” Emery stated during the press conference.
Aston Villa initially took the lead in the first leg at Parc des Princes, with Morgan Rogers scoring the opener. However, PSG responded aggressively, with Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Ousmane Dembele all netting stunning goals to secure a two-goal advantage.
Emery is also looking forward to experiencing a unique atmosphere at Villa Park for the return leg.
“On Tuesday, we are going to experience something truly special at Villa Park; something very, very special for our fans and for us. We have the chance and the opportunity to face PSG and attempt to overturn the result,” he added.
“Certainly, it will be challenging, but we must feel strong at home and prepare as thoroughly as possible for the match,” Emery concluded.
