Paris, April 10 (NationPress) Paris Saint-Germain's coach Luis Enrique stated that his squad displayed "personality and character" during their impressive 3-1 triumph over Aston Villa in the opening leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals at the Parc des Princes.
PSG bounced back with three magnificent goals to reverse Morgan Rogers' neat opener and establish a 3-1 advantage in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Aston Villa.
"What I appreciated the most was the mentality. We began the match quite well, playing as we typically do, but football can be unpredictable, and they managed to score. It was a particularly challenging moment for our confidence, a moment filled with doubt.
"However, in the end, the team demonstrated personality and character. We are pleased with the result, which is excellent, but we need to maintain the right mentality to aim for victory in the second leg," Enrique expressed during the post-match press conference.
"In matches of this magnitude, controlling your emotions is crucial. These games have their ups and downs. I believe the team exhibited the mentality and character it consistently possesses," he added.
A trio of remarkable goals from Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Nuno Mendes secured a comeback victory for PSG after Villa shocked the Parc des Princes with Morgan Rogers' opener in the 35th minute.
Mendes, who scored the third goal in PSG's victory, remarked, "The two-goal lead boosts our confidence, but we still have another match. We need to recuperate, continue our efforts for the next game, and replicate our performance today."
"Regarding my goal, I noticed that the keeper was a bit close, so I aimed to do something different, and it worked; I'm very happy about that. We recognize that our fans have always supported us; we can rely on them every minute, and that’s what we intend to do," he added.
