New Delhi, Sep 10 (NationPress) The third Women’s One Day International between Australia and India, scheduled for Sunday, March 1, will now take place at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. This rescheduling comes after Cricket Australia (CA) received notice from Cricket Victoria (CV) that the Junction Oval would not be able to accommodate the day/night match.
The reason for Junction Oval’s unavailability stems from planning delays, which have prevented the new lights at the venue from being operational in time for this match. Additionally, ongoing work on the lighting installation would have rendered parts of the ground inaccessible to fans.
Scheduling the match as a day fixture was deemed impractical due to the tight turnaround from the day/night match set for Hobart on Friday, February 27. Furthermore, the MCG is undergoing renovation works, making it unavailable.
Peter Roach, CA Head of Cricket Operations and Scheduling, expressed, “We regret having to relocate this match from Junction Oval, resulting in no women’s international match in Melbourne this season. We expected the Junction Oval lights to be installed weeks ahead of this fixture and were eager to witness the first international match under lights at that venue.”
He added, “Regrettably, the MCG’s renovation works and logistical issues, including the tight multiformat schedule and ongoing lighting work at Junction Oval, prevented us from scheduling this match as a day fixture.”
Roach expressed gratitude to Cricket Tasmania for hosting a second match in Hobart and encouraged fans in Tasmania to show their support for the world champion women’s team. He also apologized to those who purchased tickets, assuring that refunds would be processed automatically within 24 hours.
“We anticipate a thrilling series against India and look forward to the return of women’s international cricket in Melbourne next season.”
The schedule for the Hobart matches is as follows:
Aus v India, ODI (D/N), Friday 27 February 2026
Aus v India, ODI (D/N), Sunday 1 March 2026 (relocated match from Junction Oval)
