Cape Town, April 11 (NationPress) Avani Prashanth secured her position among the top 10 with a remarkable bogey-free score of 4-under 68 during the first round of the SA Women’s Open golf tournament. She achieved two birdies on each side of the Par-72 course and trails the leaders, France’s Perrine Delacour and Germany’s Aline Krauter, by three strokes at Erinvale Country & Golf Estate.
Another Indian competitor, Tvesa Malik, who has previously triumphed on the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour and Sunshine Ladies Tour, began strong with three birdies in her first three holes. After a double bogey, she managed to regain her rhythm, adding another birdie on the back nine at the 15th, finishing with a score of 2-under 70 and landing in a tie for 32nd place.
Three other Indian players, Diksha Dagar, Pranavi Urs, and Tvesa Malik, all scored even par 72, placing them at 68th.
Avani made birdies on the third and fifth holes, then added two more on the 11th and 17th, showcasing her excellent play. She successfully hit 13 of the 14 fairways and 17 of the 18 greens, needing 32 putts overall, with several near-misses, but her performance was commendable.
Delacour achieved a bogey-free round, highlighted by an eagle on the third hole, setting a strong tone for her game. The 31-year-old, active on both the LPGA and LET, maintained her momentum with a birdie on the next hole and added four more to her score. She previously secured her first LET title at the 2024 Dormy Open Helsingborg in Sweden and aims for another victory this week.
Aline Krauter from Germany had her only dropped shot of the day, finishing at seven-under-par (65) under clear skies. With eight birdies throughout the course, she displayed consistent performance. Krauter is accompanied by her parents this week, and her sole LET title was at the 2023 Hero Women’s Indian Open in India.
The leaderboard is tightly packed, with three players tied for third place, including Namibia’s Bonita Bredenhann, Czech Sara Kouskova, and France’s Lucie Malchirand, all at six-under-par (66). Notably, Bredenhann made a hole-in-one on the 14th hole.
