Kuala Lumpur, Jan 6 (NationPress) The spotlight is on top male singles competitors Lakshya Sen and H.S Prannoy as they re-enter the badminton circuit, aiming for their first title of the year at the Malaysia Open 2025, the inaugural Super 1000 tournament of the newly launched BWF World Tour, taking place at the Axiata Arena in the Malaysian capital on Tuesday. In the men's singles category, Lakshya will square off against Yu Jen Chi from Chinese Taipei, while Prannoy is set to challenge Brian Yang from Canada in the Round of 32.
Additionally, the men’s doubles team of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will face off against Lu Ming Che and Tang Kai Wie from Chinese Taipei in their respective bracket. Chirag and Satwik are the No. 7 seed in men’s doubles.
In the women’s singles, Aakarshi Kashyap will go up against Julie Dawall Jakobsen from Denmark in her opening match, while Malvika Bansod will compete against Goh Jin Wei from Malaysia. Anupama Upadhyaya will take on the No. 8 seed Pornpawee Chochuwong from Thailand.
The women’s doubles category features the No. 7 seeded pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who will compete against Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn and Sukitta Suwachai from Thailand. Meanwhile, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, entering as the No. 8 seed, are set to face Misaki Matsutomo and Chiharu Shida from Japan. A sisterly showdown will feature Rutaparna and Swetaparna Panda battling against Benyapa and Nuntakarn Aimsaard from Thailand in their opening match.
Several mixed doubles pairs will also take to the court, including an all-Indian matchup between Sathish Kumar Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath against Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh. Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila will challenge Ko Sung Hyun and Eom Hye Won from South Korea in the Round of 32.
