Mumbai, Oct 8 (NationPress) As South Africa gears up for a multi-format tour of India, which includes two Test matches, captain Temba Bavuma is seeking guidance from Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain, after their historic clean sweep against India in October-November 2024. The Black Caps achieved remarkable victories, winning the first Test in Bengaluru by eight wickets, the second in Pune by 113 runs, and completing a historic whitewash with a 25-run win at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Despite South Africa only playing two Tests in India, Bavuma aspires for his team to replicate that success and secure a clean sweep. Having led South Africa to the World Test Champions title, he expressed his intention to consult Williamson for tips on conquering India at home.
"Touring India is always a challenging endeavor. Observing how New Zealand tackled it was inspiring in numerous ways. Many touring teams struggle to find success here," Bavuma shared during an interaction.
"I understand that Kane Williamson will be present, and I plan to ask him how they managed to achieve such success," added the South African skipper.
Bavuma noted that before the India series, South Africa will face Pakistan in a Test series, emphasizing the need to focus on that to build momentum for the upcoming tour.
"However, the series against Pakistan will be another significant challenge for us. The players will be gearing up for that," he stated.
"Right after that, it’s India. For those who have toured India, we recognize the difficulties. Yet, like any series, opportunities exist. From an ambition standpoint, we aim to emerge victorious. We’re aware that we must play our best cricket. India’s strength, highlighted by Shubman Gill taking over leadership roles, adds to the challenge.”
Bavuma also acknowledged the pivotal roles of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in shaping India into a formidable team.
"It's an exciting time. Gill is a fantastic and thrilling player. It appears a new era has commenced. Players like Rohit and Kohli have significantly contributed to India’s stature, instilling fear in opposition teams," he remarked.
Bavuma expressed enthusiasm about competing against young talents on both sides.
"The younger players, whom you've mentored and inspired, are now taking charge. While India is likely to continue its dominance, our goal as South Africans is to challenge that supremacy. However, India will likely remain one of the world’s leading teams," concluded Bavuma.
