Rourkela, Feb 11 (NationPress) - In an exciting match at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, Belgium emerged victorious against India with a score of 3-1 during the Rourkela leg of the FIH Men’s Pro League 2025–26 on Wednesday. The Belgian goals were netted by Nelson Onana (23'), Thomas Crols (53'), and Arno Van Dessel (57'), while Shilanand Lakra (29') scored for India.

The first quarter showcased a fierce battle, with both teams committing few errors defensively. Belgium was awarded an early penalty corner in the 4th minute; however, Alexander Hendrickx's dragflick was impressively blocked by India's first rusher, Vivek Sagar Prasad. Shortly after, India had a penalty corner of their own but failed to convert. Despite Belgium holding more possession, India displayed commendable defensive skills and executed quick counterattacks, seeking opportunities to score. In the 14th minute, Belgium earned another penalty corner, but Tom Boon's fierce shot narrowly missed the target, keeping the scoreline unchanged.

The second quarter saw the game open up. Belgium received a penalty corner in the 21st minute, yet Indian goalkeeper Pawan made a spectacular save to deny a goal by Alexander Hendrickx. Moments later, Thomas Crols broke through on goal, but Pawan again stepped up to make a crucial save. In the 23rd minute, Belgium scored the first goal after intercepting the ball in a threatening position, with Thomas Crols assisting Nelson Onana (23') who finished with ease. India intensified their attack, making significant circle entries shortly after.

In the 29th minute, the home team surged forward again, winning a penalty corner. Amit Rohidas's attempt was initially blocked, but Shilanand Lakra capitalized on the rebound, scoring the equalizer for India.

During the third quarter, Belgium controlled possession, yet India’s defense remained steadfast. In the 38th minute, Belgium earned another penalty corner, but Alexander Hendrickx was thwarted again, this time by Jarmnapreet Singh, who skillfully saved on the goalline to keep the scores level.

In the 53rd minute, India launched a strong counterattack as Nilakanta Sharma delivered a brilliant pass to Karthi Selvam, but the Belgian defense halted the attempt. Just seconds later, Belgium countered from the left side, with Lucas Balthazar supplying a perfect pass to Thomas Crols (53'), who found the bottom right corner to regain the lead for Belgium. In the 57th minute, Thomas Crols once again made an impact, setting up Arno Van Dessel (57') inside the circle, who skillfully snuck the ball into the net, sealing Belgium's victory.
