New Delhi, Sep 26 (NationPress) The Boxing Federation of India is set to launch the inaugural BFI Cup 2025 in Chennai from October 1 to 7. This event aims to offer emerging boxers a stage to exhibit their talents while allowing seasoned athletes a chance to evaluate their preparations.
The championship will feature competitions across 10 categories for both men and women, adhering to the World Boxing weight classifications. It also presents a pathway for gold and silver medallists to join the Elite National Camp, establishing it as one of the most esteemed domestic contests for boxers.
“Indian boxing is undoubtedly gaining momentum, and the BFI is dedicated to an athlete-centric approach that is yielding positive outcomes. The BFI Cup 2025 is another milestone, providing young boxers an opportunity to shine and gain national recognition,” remarked BFI president Ajay Singh.
“Events like the BFI Cup allow top boxers to assess their training while helping the BFI discover new talent,” he further added.
State units or boards that finished in the top eight at the 8th Elite Nationals can send one boxer per category to the BFI Cup, alongside SAI NCOE and host Tamil Nadu.
Additionally, participants from the last two Elite National Championships, members of the Indian team competing in the 2024 and 2025 Asian U-22 championships, medalists from any international competition since 2022, champions from the Goa and Uttarakhand National Games, and medalists from the 6th Youth Nationals will also be eligible. Entries will be accepted solely through official state boards and units.
India recently achieved two gold, a silver, and a bronze at the World Boxing Championships held in Liverpool, United Kingdom—the country’s best medal haul outside India. Furthermore, India is set to host the World Boxing Cup Finale later this year, aiming to build on the success of the initial legs in Brazil and Kazakhstan.
