New Delhi, Aug 1 (NationPress) The eagerly anticipated elections of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) are set to occur on August 21, as announced by the Interim Committee responsible for managing the BFI's daily operations on Friday.
According to a circular endorsed by Interim Committee chairman Ajay Singh, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for 11:00 AM and will include elections for several significant positions for the term spanning 2025–2029. Member states and Union Territories must submit the names of two representatives by 5:00 PM on Monday.
“This notice serves to inform that the AGM of the Boxing Federation of India will be conducted on 21.08.2025 in Delhi-NCR at 11:00 AM. Member States and UT Associations are urged to send the names of their two representatives, as per the provisions of the BFI Constitution approved by World Boxing, to the BFI’s office email by 5 PM on 04.08.2025,” the circular stated.
The agenda will also cover the confirmation of minutes from the last AGM and discuss other relevant matters, contingent on the Chair’s approval.
The BFI elections, which were originally planned for March 28, faced delays due to legal disputes, leading to the appointment of an Ajay Singh-led six-member Interim Committee on April 7 to manage the federation's daily affairs and address ongoing issues.
This committee was established with immediate effect for a period not exceeding 90 days, but its mandate was extended to conduct elections by August 31, in accordance with the deadline imposed by World Boxing.
Simultaneously, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) formed a three-member committee on July 11, headed by IOA Treasurer Sahdev Yadav, along with Bhupender Singh Bajwa and Advocate Payal Kakra, to investigate the reasons for the delay in the BFI polls and propose a strategy for “fair and timely elections”.
