New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) The 9th Elite Men's & Women's National Boxing Championship, initially set to take place from December 31, 2025 to January 6, 2026 at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, has been postponed, as announced by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on Wednesday.

Due to the pollution control mandates established by the Government, effective until December 31, 2025, the Championship will now occur from January 4 to 10, 2026, at the same venue, the BFI stated in a release.

All other logistical arrangements will remain unaffected. More updates will be communicated in due course, the announcement noted.

This marks the first occasion where the BFI will conduct both the men’s and women’s National Boxing Championships concurrently, showcasing India’s top senior talent in a unified event.

When the tournament is rescheduled, Services will enter as the reigning Men's National Champions, while Railways seeks to defend its Women’s Team Championship title.

“Competitors from across the nation will vie in ten weight categories for both men and women, adhering strictly to World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules. Each unit may enter one boxer per category, with no reserves permitted. Eligible boxers must have been born between January 1, 1985, and December 31, 2006,” the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) mentioned in their release.

All matches will conform to the international competition structure, comprising three rounds of three minutes each, with one-minute rest intervals and utilizing the 10-point must scoring system.

Many of India’s most prominent stars at the World Boxing Cup Finals began their journey at prior Nationals. Sachin Siwach and Hitesh Gulia, who secured gold at the World Boxing Cup Finals, were first crowned National Champions. Minakshi and Jaismine, now the reigning World Champions, also made significant impressions at these events.

As the international calendar progresses toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle, the 9th Elite Men's & Women's National Boxing Championship will serve as a pivotal gateway for India’s elite program.

Point of View

I believe the rescheduling of the Elite National Boxing Championship is a necessary step in addressing environmental concerns. The BFI's decision reflects a commitment to both the sport and the health of athletes, ensuring that our national competitions uphold the highest standards.
