Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking event, the Elite senior nationals for both men and women will occur simultaneously for the very first time, showcasing India’s premier boxing talent from December 31, 2025, to January 6, 2026, at Gautam Buddha University, located in Greater Noida.
The defending champions in the men’s category are Services, while Railways will strive to uphold their title in the women’s division. The official draw is scheduled for December 30, kicking off the next phase of India’s high-performance journey.
According to a statement from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), teams from across the nation will compete across ten weight divisions for both men and women, strictly adhering to the World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules. Each team may enter one boxer per weight class, with no substitutes permitted. Eligible athletes must be born between January 1, 1985, and December 31, 2006.
All matches will conform to the international competition format featuring three rounds of three minutes each, interspersed with one-minute rest periods, utilizing the 10-point must scoring system.
Commenting on the significance of the event, BFI chief Ajay Singh stated, “Robust systems are essential for long-term success, and the National Championships are where that framework truly begins. This platform fosters opportunity, uncovers talent, and provides every boxer a fair pathway to the national camp.
“Our recent achievements at the World Boxing Cup Finals have demonstrated the strength of this approach. As we gear up for upcoming challenges, these championships will be pivotal in identifying and preparing the athletes who can champion our aspirations.”
Many of India’s most promising boxers, who triumphed at the World Boxing Cup Finals, initiated their journeys at prior Nationals. Boxers like Sachin Siwach and Hitesh Gulia, both gold medalists at the World Boxing Cup Finals, first earned their National Champion titles here. Minakshi and Jaismine, who are now the reigning World Champions, also made their early marks at these events.
As the international schedule progresses towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle, the Nationals will once again act as the gateway to India’s elite boxing framework.
