New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) The arena is primed for exhilarating competition as approximately 300 of India’s elite women boxers will vie for national prestige at the 8th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship, set to occur at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida from March 21-27.
Hosted in collaboration with the UP Boxing Association, this national event returns to the site that successfully held the previous edition in 2023.
Conducted under the regulations of the World Boxing and Boxing Federation of India (BFI), the championship is accessible to athletes born between January 1, 1984, and December 31, 2005.
Each state can register a maximum of 10 participants, with numerical entries closing on March 10 and final name confirmations required by March 15.
The competition officially kicks off on March 20 with arrivals, draws, and technical meetings. The opening rounds are scheduled from March 21 to 24, followed by the quarterfinals on March 25 and semi-finals on March 26, culminating in the much-anticipated finals on March 27.
“The Elite Women’s National Championship has been a launching pad for future champions, offering budding talents the opportunity to challenge themselves against the finest. As the inaugural nationals in the new Olympic preparation cycle, this edition will be vital in discovering and nurturing boxers for the upcoming three years,” remarked BFI secretary general Hemanta Kumar Kalita.
The tournament will utilize a three-round format, with each bout comprising three-minute rounds and a one-minute rest period. The ten-point must-scoring system will be implemented, and all matches will comply with World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules. Boxers will also need to undergo a daily weigh-in throughout the duration of the competition.
Apart from the 300 participating boxers, the championship will unite over 100 coaches and support personnel, along with 60 technical officials, guaranteeing a premier boxing event.
Defending champions Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) aim to defend their title after a stellar performance in the last edition, where they secured five gold medals, one silver, and two bronzes.
RSPB edged out Haryana by eight points, with the latter finishing in second place with seven medals, comprising three golds, three silvers, and a bronze.
