Greater Noida (U.P.), March 25 (NationPress) World Championships bronze medallist Simranjit Kaur and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Jaismine Lamboria displayed remarkable performances to advance into the semifinals of the 8th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship 2025 here on Tuesday. Simranjit, the first female boxer from Punjab to participate in the Olympics, demonstrated her expertise with a unanimous decision win over Railways' Prachi in the 60-65kg category.
In a parallel bout, Jaismine (SSCB) continued her impressive run with another RSC triumph against Tamil Nadu's Hannah Joy, concluding the fight in just two rounds.
This championship, organized by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh Boxing Association, is being held at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and will conclude on March 27. A total of 188 boxers from 24 state units are contesting across ten weight categories in this week-long tournament, adhering to the World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules, featuring three three-minute rounds with one-minute breaks.
One of the day's significant surprises came when Tamil Nadu’s Kalaivani S., the 2019 National Champion, triumphed over 2022 Youth World Champion Devika Ghorpade (Maharashtra) with a commanding, unanimous decision victory in the Light Flyweight (48-51kg) category.
Current Light Flyweight champion Anamika Hooda moved closer to defending her title with a decisive 5:0 unanimous victory over Delhi’s Mehak Dharra in the quarterfinals. Anamika is set to battle Kalaivani S. in what promises to be an exhilarating semifinal clash. Meanwhile, Haryana’s Tamanna will compete against Rajasthan’s Sunita, both advancing with hard-fought quarterfinal victories.
In the heavyweight division, two-time defending national champion Nupur (Railways) overpowered Tamil Nadu’s Jayasree S. to move forward, preparing for a semifinal encounter against Uttar Pradesh’s Ipsita Vikram, who easily defeated Rajasthan’s Chandan Choudhary with a unanimous decision.
