Greater Noida, March 23 (NationPress) Commonwealth Games medallist Jaismine Lamboria continued her impressive streak at the 8th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship 2025, achieving a decisive RSC triumph in the second round against Chandigarh’s Ruchika during the preliminaries.

The current national lightweight champion, who has moved up to featherweight on her path to the Paris Olympics, advanced to the quarterfinals with authority.

This championship, organized by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh Boxing Association, is being held at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and will conclude on March 27.

A total of 188 boxers from 24 state units are competing in ten weight categories throughout this week-long event, which adheres to the World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules, consisting of three three-minute rounds with one-minute rest intervals.

Also celebrating a victory was Sanamacha Chanu of the Railways Sports Promotion Board, a Youth World and National Champion, who showcased her prowess in a unanimous decision win over Manipur’s Bindiya Devi Maorem. Chanu maintained complete control with her tactical aggression and precise technique, reinforcing her credentials as a title contender.

Last year’s silver medallist Sonia from Uttar Pradesh made an impactful statement in the bantamweight category, defeating Delhi’s Vanshika to progress. In the minimumweight division, Sikkim’s Yasika Rai exhibited sharp footwork and effective counterpunching to secure a unanimous decision over Maharashtra’s Janhvi Churi.

In another close match, Haryana’s Tannu narrowly defeated Manipur’s Sovi Jajo in a lightweight bout, winning by split decision (4:1).

The preliminaries also featured several emphatic stoppage victories, including Vanshika Singh of Rajasthan, who overwhelmed Kerala’s Dhanya PR with a first-round RSC in the minimumweight category. Additionally, All India Police’s Imroz Khan delivered a commanding performance, clinching a round-one stoppage victory against Andhra Pradesh’s Swapna Jampana, rounding off another exhilarating day of high-energy boxing.

The nationals will proceed to the quarterfinals on Monday, with the match between Nitu Ghanghas and Minakshi of All India Police in the minimumweight category standing out.

Later, defending featherweight champion Sonia Lather, now competing in the lightweight category (57-60kg), will face Monica in her pursuit of gold.
