Greater Noida, March 22 (NationPress) World Champion and Arjuna Awardee Nitu Ghanghas (Haryana) showcased an impressive performance on Day 2 of the 8th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship 2025, achieving a convincing unanimous victory over Rajasthan’s Anjali Choudhary in the Minimumweight category (45-48kg) to advance to the next round.
Other prominent boxers, Jaismine Lamboria, one of the two representatives from the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), and Sakshi also moved forward with commanding wins. Jaismine easily outperformed Uttar Pradesh’s Ice Prajapati. Sakshi, the second SSCB entrant, showcased her strength with a 5:0 win against Punjab’s Sandeep Kaur, solidifying the Services' impactful presence in the event.
Organized by the BFI in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh Boxing Association, the championship is being held at Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and will conclude on March 27. Nearly 200 boxers from 24 state units will compete across ten weight categories in this week-long tournament, adhering to the World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules, featuring three three-minute rounds with one-minute rest intervals.
Anamika Hooda (Railways) maintained her formidable form, following up her knockout in the opening round with another first-round stoppage against Andhra Pradesh’s Manasa Veni Anakapalli, reinforcing her title ambitions. Youth World Champion Devika Ghorpade (Maharashtra) also shone brightly, defeating Sumayya M.
In the 54-57kg category, Kunjarani Devi (Manipur) narrowly defeated Monika Mehta (Uttarakhand) with a hard-fought 4:1 split decision, while Poonam (Railways) proved too powerful for Karnataka’s K Yoogasri. The 60-65kg division saw UP’s Sarita Rai earn a well-deserved victory over Delhi’s Shivani.
Minakshi (AIP) dominated Kerala’s Milano M.J. with an impressive 5:0 unanimous win in the 45-48kg category. In the 51-54kg division, Savita (RSPB) overwhelmed Assam’s Puja Sonowal with a second-round stoppage (RSC).
Meanwhile, Kerala’s Nandana C. made an impactful statement, clinching a first-round RSC victory over Karnataka’s Monika K, rounding off an action-packed day filled with exhilarating performances.
