New Delhi, Aug 5 (NationPress) The 4th Sub-Junior (U-15) Boys and Girls National Boxing Championships will take place from August 7 to 13 at Galgotias University in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, as announced by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on Tuesday.
This prestigious event will feature over 700 young boxers, comprising 400 boys and 300 girls aged between 13 and 14, competing in 15 weight categories.
In line with BFI's mission to establish a strong grassroots-to-elite pathway, the Sub-Junior Nationals play a pivotal role in discovering young talent and preparing them for advanced levels of competition.
This championship follows the successful organization of the men’s, women’s, and junior nationals earlier this year, which have already showcased international medallists and potential future stars. Haryana (Girls) and Chandigarh (Boys) are the defending champions from the previous edition.
Competitors will follow World Boxing Technical Rules, engaging in three rounds of 1.5 minutes each, with a one-minute break in between. A 10-point scoring system will be employed. Additionally, medal winners from the REC Combined Talent Hunt 2024 are also permitted to participate, heightening the competition's intensity.
According to a BFI official, "The Sub-Junior Nationals mark the beginning of India's boxing journey. This platform is essential for identifying talent and offers real competition early on. The skills, discipline, and confidence gained here are foundational for international success. This is a significant grassroots milestone for these young boxers, and we anticipate witnessing many future stars in action."
India's youth boxing program has garnered international attention, excelling not only at the senior level but also in age-group competitions. Recently, at the Asian U-15 and U-17 Championships, Indian boxers secured 43 medals and achieved second place overall, showcasing the depth of talent and potential within the junior ranks.
