New Delhi, July 13 (NationPress) The Interim Committee of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has reiterated its pledge to comply with the World Boxing directive by ensuring that national federation elections occur by the mandated date of August 31.
Following discussions with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president in Lausanne, the global governing body has recently extended the tenure of the Interim Committee, acknowledging its effective operations and significant efforts in restoring transparency and stability within India’s boxing administration.
World Boxing appointed the interim committee in April of this year to manage daily operations after the BFI elections faced delays due to legal disputes.
“World Boxing has explicitly mandated that the BFI elections take place before August 31, and we, as the Interim Committee, are steadfast in our commitment to conducting free and fair elections within this timeframe. We must also emphasize that the autonomy of the National Federation is defined by the guidelines established by the World Body,”
said Col. Arun Malik (Retd.), Executive Director, BFI and Member of the Interim Committee.
“While we acknowledge the intent behind the IOA’s establishment of a three-member fact-finding committee, the current process is already transparent, accountable, and well-documented. All significant action points and developments have been formally communicated to both the IOA and the Ministry, ensuring complete institutional clarity.”
Col. Malik further stated, “The information is already public; our concentration is on facilitating a smooth, lawful, and timely transition to benefit Indian boxing.”
The committee has also ensured India’s ongoing participation in international competitions, resumed national training camps, and aided preparations for upcoming major events.
Moreover, discussions about the election roadmap have been conducted with the global governing body, as the committee continues to guide Indian boxing toward stability and advancement.
“The achievements of Indian boxers over the past three months, since the Interim Committee assumed control, have received acclaim from the World Body as well as leading boxing nations across Asia. India has consistently ranked among the top three performing nations in significant international tournaments during this timeframe,”
Col. Malik added.
On Saturday, IOA president PT Usha established a Sahdev Yadav-led fact-finding committee to investigate the reasons behind the delay in BFI polls and recommend a roadmap for “fair and timely elections.”
The principle of the National Federation’s autonomy remains paramount, as recognized by the global governing structure of the sport. It’s notable that a similar committee formed by the IOA in the past was dismissed by the Delhi Court, which upheld the federation’s autonomy, according to the interim panel.
In the current context, any obstacles to a smooth transition arise from ongoing legal proceedings—issues that necessitate focused resolution without compromising the interim body’s operations. The Interim Committee is dedicated to maintaining this autonomy while ensuring that all actions align with legal, administrative, and international expectations,”
the committee concluded.
