New Delhi, April 15 (NationPress) The Interim Committee, established by World Boxing to steer Indian boxing back on course, convened for its inaugural meeting on Monday, where it made pivotal decisions aimed at rejuvenating the grassroots structure and enhancing India’s medal chances at forthcoming international events.
The Interim Committee, chaired by Ajay Singh, president of the Boxing Federation of India, was formed on April 7 to manage the federation’s daily operations and tackle existing challenges hindering the growth of boxing.
During the virtual meeting on Monday, the committee reached substantial decisions addressing the operational deadlock that has plagued Indian boxing since the beginning of the year, as stated in a release from the BFI.
The committee resolved to promptly invigorate the domestic boxing circuit and recommence the elite boxing framework. Additionally, it was agreed that the selection process for coaches and support staff for the Elite Men and Women National Coaching Camps would be initiated without delay.
This committee has been constituted for a maximum period of 90 days and is required to present its first report to World Boxing within 30 days, detailing the actions taken, procedures followed, and future plans.
Among the critical decisions made was to facilitate India’s participation in the U-15 and U-17 Asian Championships in Amman, Jordan, starting April 17, 2025. The committee also ensured the effective organization of the Youth U-19 National Championships to maximize participation and disbursement of the REC Scholarship funds to athletes, which have been delayed for several months.
Furthermore, the committee opted to allocate the REC grant for grassroots equipment support to selected and approved academies to enhance and promote boxing in newer regions across the country.
