New Delhi, July 7 (NationPress) In recognition of the systematic efforts made by the Interim Committee to enhance transparency and stability within the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), World Boxing has decided to extend the Committee's term, led by Ajay Singh, until August 31, 2025.
The Interim Committee was appointed by World Boxing in April this year to oversee daily operations. During its initial 90 days, the committee has successfully organized structured domestic nationals and international tournaments across all age categories (U15, U17, and Elite), prioritizing the athletes’ needs and working towards restoring the lost glory of Indian boxing.
In a letter to Singh on Monday, World Boxing President Boris van der Vorst commended the Interim Committee for their ‘Athletes First’ strategy, which has led to consistent participation of Indian boxers in significant international competitions, achieving podium finishes.
“We are delighted to see that the Interim Committee is operating effectively and has made substantial progress in reinstating transparency and stability in the national boxing administration. World Boxing is closely observing developments in Indian boxing and is heartened by the ongoing participation of Indian athletes in international events and their regular success on the podium. These accomplishments reflect the structured and positive initiatives being taken under your guidance,” Vorst expressed in his correspondence with the Interim Committee Chairman.
“In light of the forthcoming domestic and continental events, we encourage the Interim Committee to persist in managing BFI's operations to guarantee seamless participation of Indian athletes at every level,” he further stated.
Indian boxers excelled in the recently concluded World Boxing Cup held in Astana, Kazakhstan 2025, securing a total of 11 medals, including three gold and five silver. They also achieved six medals in the first leg in Brazil and had an impressive performance at the Thailand International Open.
Vorst’s letter also highlighted his recent discussions with PT Usha, the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), who also praised the initiatives taken by the Interim Committee.
