BFI President Ajay Singh Joins Board of New Asian Boxing Organization; Lovlina Joins Athletes' Commission

New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) World Boxing has welcomed Asia as its latest member, and the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) will occupy seven significant roles within the newly constituted framework of the interim organization. Among these, BFI president Ajay Singh has been named a board member.
Indian representatives will be present in all major commissions, guaranteeing a strong influence in the formulation of policies and strategic direction. This encompasses BFI secretary general Hemanta Kumar Kalita, who will play a pivotal role in the Olympic Commission, and BFI treasurer Digvijay Singh, who will serve on the Finance and Audit Committee.
Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain will be included in the Athletes’ Commission.
“The establishment of Asian Boxing is a landmark achievement for World Boxing and a vital move to ensure that boxing continues to be featured in the Olympic Games in LA 2028 and beyond. “Through our collaboration with World Boxing, India is playing a crucial role in enhancing boxing standards and reaffirming its dedication to excellence on a global scale,” stated Ajay Singh regarding the formation of the interim Asian organization and BFI’s involvement.
Tokyo Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain will take part in the newly established Athletes’ Commission, voicing the concerns of athletes in both Asian and global boxing.
As one of three members of the Athletes’ Commission, Lovlina emphasized the importance of the governing body and the significant role that both she and India can fulfill, remarking, “It is a privilege to represent India as a member of the Athletes’ Commission within Asian Boxing. This is an essential platform to ensure that the voices of athletes are acknowledged and prioritized in the decision-making process.”
“My goal will be to advocate for improved training facilities, equitable opportunities, and comprehensive support systems throughout Asia that enable boxers to shine on the international stage.
“India’s active involvement in this body underscores our commitment to nurturing talent and elevating boxing as a prominent sport across Asia. Together, we can forge a future where athletes flourish and the sport achieves unprecedented levels of excellence,” she added.
BFI vice president (North Zone) Narender Kumar Nirwan will serve on the constitution commission, while BFI disciplinary & disputes commission chairman D P Bhatt will participate in the newly created sports and competition commission. Karanjeet Singh will be part of the medical commission in the newly established Asian organization.
This announcement further builds upon India’s recent achievements, which include securing hosting rights for the esteemed World Boxing Cup Final 2025 and the World Boxing Congress 2025.
