Mauritius, April 8 (NationPress) - Gaganjeet Bhullar, a seasoned champion with four IGPL Tour titles, is set to compete in the IGPL Invitational 2026. At 37, Bhullar holds the record for the highest number of wins by an Indian on the Asian Tour, boasting 11 victories, including his recent triumph at the opening event in Chandigarh. His goal is to achieve consecutive victories once again.

The second event of the IGPL Tour 2026 marks its first venture outside of India this year, kicking off the African segment, which will feature additional tournaments in South Africa and Congo. Last year, the tour made stops in Dubai and Sri Lanka.

This season, the IGPL has secured 10 franchises for the IGPL League as part of the Tour, with the circuit scheduled to visit 10 cities, each represented by a franchise.

Upon his arrival, Bhullar stated, “Winning is our primary objective, and that’s my mission this week as well. Last year, I claimed the first two events in Chandigarh and Greater Noida, and I aspire to achieve back-to-back wins again.” He acknowledges the strong competition in the IGPL, with formidable players like Karandeep Kochhar and Pukhraj Singh Gill performing well.

Tennis icon Leander Paes, owner of the Flying Man Kolkata franchise, has played a key role in facilitating the IGPL Invitational in Mauritius, supported by the Mauritius Economic Development Board, which promotes golf through the IGPL.

Paes, celebrated for his 18 Grand Slam titles across various categories, is an avid golfer keen on enhancing business ties between India and Mauritius.

After arriving in Mauritius on Tuesday, Bhullar remarked, “I just got here today. I'm scheduled for a practice round tomorrow. I previously participated in an event here, and the golf course is stunning. It's a significant achievement for the IGPL to hold an event in Mauritius, providing a wonderful experience for many young players who have limited opportunities to compete outside of India.”

“It's a challenging course with considerable wind, a European Tour-level venue. I believe it’s going to be a fantastic week, and I'm eager to perform well,” he added.

Having previously played here during a co-sanctioned event between the Asian and European Tours, Bhullar is keen to add this tournament to his list of accomplishments.

Reflecting on his season, he noted, “I started strong in the IGPL, winning my first event this year. My aim is to maintain that momentum and continually improve as a player, especially with the partnership between the IGPL and the Liv-backed International Series. I’m excited to aim for a top position in the Order of Merit and leverage this opportunity to reach Liv.”

In 2026, Bhullar plans to balance his participation in the IGPL, International Series, and Asian Tour. As a senior player, he enjoys mentoring emerging talents in the sport.
