Jammu, Nov 7 (NationPress) More than 6,000 individuals have signed up for the upcoming BSF marathon scheduled for November 9. Additionally, a motorcycle rally will be initiated from this location to Bhuj in Gujarat, as announced by the IG BSF Jammu Frontier during a press briefing.
The IG BSF Jammu Frontier stated that the Director General (DG) BSF will officially commence the marathon, which includes four categories: 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, and a 5 km ‘run for fun’ that welcomes participants of all ages.
Notable attendees such as Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty and renowned para-archer from J&K, Rakesh Kumar, are set to grace both the opening and closing ceremonies of this event. The marathon offers substantial cash prizes: Rs 1.50 lakh for the full marathon, Rs 75,000 for the half-marathon, and Rs 50,000 for the 10-km run.
Additionally, six international participants have registered for the marathon, which is set to become an annual tradition organized by the Jammu BSF frontier, according to the IG.
Alongside the marathon, the DG will also lead a team of 60 motorcycle-borne personnel who will head to the Bhuj region of Gujarat by November 19 to participate in the significant raising day celebrations of the force on November 21.
“The BSF was established in 1965 and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year in Gujarat. Our motorcycle contingent will travel through various regions along the Indo-Pakistan border in J&K, Punjab, and Rajasthan before arriving in Gujarat on November 19 to take part in the celebrations,” he elaborated.
The IG emphasized that this marathon is aimed at promoting fitness, unity, and national pride, aligning with the ‘Fit India’ and ‘Khelo India’ initiatives, and seeks to strengthen bonds between border communities and the country.
Expressing his satisfaction with the overwhelming response, he noted that over 4,000 registrations were logged within the first 36 hours of the marathon's announcement.
“We have surpassing 6000 participants from across the nation, including six foreign entrants, and anticipate more as inquiries continue to come in from abroad,” concluded the IG BSF.
