Dubai, Sep 28 (NationPress) As the Asia Cup final approaches, India’s leading fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah highlighted the rare occurrence of facing Pakistan multiple times within a single tournament. He noted that it’s uncommon for teams to meet the same opponent thrice in one competition.
Both teams are set to clash for the third time, with India previously defeating Pakistan by seven wickets in their Group A encounter and by six wickets in the Super Fours. “It has been thrilling. It’s not every day in a multinational tournament that you face one opponent three times, so I find it quite fascinating,” Bumrah remarked during a conversation with the broadcasters.
Bumrah has claimed five wickets in the Asia Cup, and intriguingly, Suryakumar Yadav has utilized him in a new capacity—bowling three overs during the powerplay. “The team has opted to deploy me up front for three overs, which is a new experience for me. I recall doing this when I first joined the international fold in 2016. So, it’s an intriguing role,” he said.
“I’m delighted to fulfill any role the team requires and strive to contribute to the best of my abilities. The team appears formidable. At this point, we don’t dwell on reputations because the IPL has significantly bolstered the confidence of our young players, and they recognize their capabilities,” he added.
When asked about the youngsters' confidence in securing wins for the team, Bumrah stated, “Back in 2016, I had to convince myself. But the current players have already participated in 5-7 matches, and their confidence is remarkable.”
“They understand their strengths. They’ve faced top bowling line-ups and have excelled against them. This experience boosts their confidence and empowers them to tackle the game as it unfolds,” he noted.
Bumrah concluded by affirming that the Indian team will enter the final with a clean slate. “That’s crucial. Every game begins from scratch. We draw confidence from past performances but don’t let it inflate or diminish our focus against any opponent. That has always been our principle,” he remarked.
“Our primary focus is on our own team—on our strengths and combinations—because when we do that, we usually succeed. Overemphasizing the opposition and their strategies doesn’t concern us. We prioritize our processes and ensure we tick all the necessary boxes.”
