New Delhi, April 22 (NationPress) Australian batter and ICC World Test Championship Final contender Cameron Green has received accolades from his coach following a remarkable return to competitive cricket in England.
Green, who has overcome an injury hiatus lasting over six months, made his debut for England's County side Gloucestershire in a four-day match against Kent in Canterbury. He made an immediate impression by scoring a century in Gloucestershire's first innings.
The 25-year-old struck 12 boundaries in a 188-ball innings of 122 runs, as he aims for a spot in the international squad for the World Test Championship Final against South Africa at Lord's on June 11.
However, Green could not replicate his success in the second innings, where he was dismissed for a mere three runs.
His County coach and former England international Mark Alleyne praised Green's impact on the team since his arrival, believing the tall all-rounder is making a significant impression.
"We appreciate his (Green's) runs, but being an overseas player and joining a club involves more than just on-field performances," Alleyne stated on the team's social media channels after Gloucestershire's match with Kent ended in a draw.
"His practice sessions have been outstanding; he is a great guy and communicates effectively about the game.
"Even before his century, he began to influence the group, which has solidified the start of his Gloucestershire journey. His century was crucial at a challenging time for us," he added.
While Green aspires to secure a position in Australia’s team for the World Test Championship Final, he is concentrating on enhancing his fitness over the next month with Gloucestershire and honing his batting skills.
"After eight long months on the sidelines, it feels fantastic to be back, and it’s a wonderful way to kick off my tenure here," Green expressed.
Green's upcoming challenge with Gloucestershire will be at the County Ground in Bristol against Leicestershire, with the four-day match starting on Friday.
