New Delhi, June 26 (NationPress) India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has announced that he is recovering well following a hernia surgery performed on his lower right abdomen in Munich, Germany. After participating in the IPL 2025 and the Mumbai T20 League, he traveled to Europe with his wife Devisha before undergoing the operation.
On his Instagram, Suryakumar shared, “Life Update: I had surgery for a sports hernia in my lower right abdomen. I’m thankful to report that the procedure went smoothly, and I’m already on the path to recovery. Excited to return!”
This marks the second instance of Suryakumar undergoing surgery for a sports hernia; he previously had a similar procedure for a groin hernia on January 17, 2024, in Munich. This surgery followed an ankle injury he sustained during India's tour of South Africa in December 2023.
His last appearance for India was during the five-match T20I series against England, which India lost 4-1 earlier this year. The 34-year-old right-handed batsman scored an impressive 717 runs in 16 innings for the Mumbai Indians, making him the second highest run-scorer in IPL 2025.
Despite the Mumbai Indians not clinching the IPL 2025 title, Suryakumar was honored as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season for his remarkable performance as a non-opening batsman in the tournament. In a few weeks, he will begin his rehabilitation program at the BCCI Centre for Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
It will be intriguing to see if Suryakumar can regain match fitness in time for India's three T20Is against Bangladesh, scheduled for late August. The Indian team is also set to play three ODIs in Bangladesh during the same month, a format in which Suryakumar has not participated since the 2023 ODI World Cup Final against Australia in Ahmedabad.
