London, June 4 (NationPress) Lee Carsley has officially extended his contract as the head coach of the England U21 team with the Football Association (FA) until the conclusion of the 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

This announcement comes as Carsley gears up to lead the Young Lions in the upcoming 2025 tournament in Slovakia, following his successful tenure at the 2023 finals.

In this prestigious 16-nation tournament, England will face Czechia, Slovenia, and Germany, with group-stage matches scheduled for June 12, 15, and 18.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Lee Carsley stated his excitement about mentoring the next wave of England talent.

"The decision was quite straightforward for me," Carsley remarked. "I've thoroughly enjoyed my tenure at the FA, and I feel honored to be in this role, making it an exhilarating time to work with this upcoming generation of players.

Carsley looks forward to his ongoing collaboration with young talents in his capacity as U21 head coach.

"We've been discussing this contract extension for some time now, and I'm hopeful that this timing allows us to focus entirely on the EUROs and beyond.

"It was an easy choice, and I take pride in being recognized for doing a commendable job; I hope to continue this trend," he added.

This week, Carsley and his squad have been training at St. George’s Park for a pre-EURO camp, with the final squad announcement due on Friday for their journey to Slovakia.

"Our preparations have been productive, and we've had three solid days of training," he noted.

“It's essential to acknowledge that players may have personal matters outside the camp, and I aim to support them while keeping their focus on the goal of traveling to Slovakia and hopefully defending our title.

Carsley has held multiple coaching roles throughout the development team pathway and briefly managed the MU20s. The qualifiers for the 2027 UEFA MU21 EURO will take place during the 2025-26 season, with the final event slated for summer 2027 in Albania.
