Bonn, April 15 (NationPress) Changwon, South Korea is set to be the venue for the 2026 World Shooting Para Sport Championships from September 3 to 14. This prestigious event will serve as a qualifier for the LA 2028 Paralympic Games, with quota places available.
This will be the 10th edition of the Shooting Para Sport Worlds, featuring approximately 300 athletes from over 50 countries. This championship will include both Para Trap and VI (vision impaired) events within its combined program.
Changwon will host the World Championships for the second time, previously held in Cheongju in 2018. The Changwon International Shooting Range has been the site for the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup for the last four years (2022-2025).
Additionally, the venue hosted the ISSF World Championships in 2018 and the ISSF World Championships Juniors in 2023.
Tyler Anderson, the World Shooting Para Sport Senior Manager, expressed, "Changwon is the perfect location for the inaugural World Championships of the LA2028 Games cycle. With excellent facilities and an experienced LOC, we are excited to return to Korea, a leader in shooting Para sport, after eight years."
The previous championships were held in Lima, Peru in 2023, where France led the medal tally with six golds. Out of 54 participating nations, 21 secured medals, with 16 winning at least one gold.
During the last edition, 27 champions emerged from a cohort of 260 athletes representing 54 nations. An additional 33 qualified for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, and three world records were established.
The inaugural edition of the World Championships took place in Bruges, Belgium in 1993.
