New Delhi, April 25 (NationPress) The Diamond Harbour Football Club (DHFC) has decided to postpone their victory march, which was originally set for Sunday, April 27. This event was intended to celebrate the club's remarkable I-League 2 title victory and their ascension to the I-League.

In light of the heartbreaking terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, DHFC's Chief Patron, Abhishek Banerjee, made the announcement to indefinitely delay the event as a tribute to the victims.

“Diamond Harbour Football Club was poised to celebrate a significant achievement; being named I-League 2 Champions and qualifying for the I-League with a Victory March on Sunday, April 27. However, in the wake of the tragic Pahalgam incident, our Chief Patron Abhishek Banerjee has opted to postpone the event indefinitely out of respect. We express our solidarity with the victims and their families,” stated the club.

This decision came less than 24 hours after DHFC secured their place in the history books with a thrilling 1-0 win over Chanmari FC at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizwal. A late 85th-minute goal by Rabi Mandi, following a stunning left-wing delivery, clinched the title for the West Bengal-based club.

Prior to this match, DHFC needed merely a point to secure the championship. With this victory, they not only claimed the I-League 2 trophy but also extended their unbeaten streak in the competition to 15 matches—comprising 11 wins and 4 draws. Earlier this season, DHFC had triumphed in the I-League 3 title, securing their promotion to the second division.

Now, with their position in the I-League confirmed, Diamond Harbour FC joins the ranks of prestigious West Bengal clubs competing in the national league—alongside the legendary East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, and Mohammedan Sporting, all of whom have advanced to the Indian Super League.
