Digboi, Nov 20 (NationPress) The leader of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) rankings, Yuvraj Sandhu, showcased a stellar performance in Round Three, establishing a significant six-shot advantage with a cumulative score of 16-under 200 at the INR 1 crore Digboi Masters 2025 taking place at the Digboi Golf Links.
Yuvraj (65-69-66), who held a two-stroke lead after the initial rounds, extended his dominance with a remarkable six-under 66 on Thursday. The 28-year-old golfer from Chandigarh is on the brink of clinching his third title in Digboi and his fifth overall this season.
Trailing Yuvraj as the final day approaches is Viraj Madappa (70-68-68), who is currently second at 10-under 206 in his debut at Digboi. Madappa's third round of 68 elevated him from a tied third position overnight.
In a tie for third place at nine-under 207 are N. Thangaraja (67) from Sri Lanka and Veer Ahlawat (69), a previous Digboi champion. Local professional Deven Bhumij, the sole player from Digboi to make the cut, is positioned tied 42nd at four-over 220 after a third-round score of 73.
Since Day One, Yuvraj Sandhu has been leading the pack and began his third round explosively, securing five birdies within the first seven holes, including three putts from distances of six to ten feet. He added another birdie on the Par-5 15th hole.
Yuvraj, who has exceeded INR 1 crore in earnings this season on the PGTI, remarked, “For the second consecutive day, I hit 17 greens in regulation, which highlights my consistent ball-striking. The putter performed well, although I did miss some four-foot birdie opportunities on the back nine, which hindered my momentum.”
“I hold the record for the lowest winning score in Digboi at 23-under. I aspire to break that record this week, but I’ll need more putts to drop in the final round. The fact that I had birdie chances on virtually every hole today without a single bogey boosts my confidence heading into the last round,” added Sandhu, who finished as runner-up in the last two PGTI events after narrowly missing out in successive playoffs.
Viraj Madappa, a previous PGTI champion this year, has made a notable impression in his first appearance at the Digboi Golf Links, marking his inaugural visit to Assam. His round included a chip-in for eagle on the 11th, another exceptional chip that set him up for a tap-in birdie on the 14th, along with two additional birdies and a bogey.
Saptak Talwar (72), who was in second place after the first half, fell to tied fifth at eight-under 208. Shivendra Singh Sisodia (70) also joined Saptak in tied fifth. Defending champion Jamal Hossain (70) from Bangladesh concluded the day tied for eighth at five-under 211.
