New Delhi, Sep 30 (NationPress) Divya Bhardwaj from Gujarat and Akanksha Nitture of Maharashtra have successfully progressed to the second round of the ongoing 30th Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship in the women's singles category at the DLTA Complex here on Tuesday.
Divya, who made her way into the main draw through the qualifying rounds, continued her winning streak by defeating the third seed, Pooja Ingale from Maharashtra, with a score of 6-3, 6-4 on a day affected by rain. The match commenced with excitement as both players were tied at 3-3 midway through the set, but Divya quickly gained momentum, winning three consecutive games to take control.
The second set reflected the competitive spirit of the first, once again reaching a 3-3 tie before Divya broke Pooja's serve to lead 5-3. Although the third seed managed to hold a game with an impressive display near the net, she could not prevent Divya from clinching her sixth game and advancing to the next stage of the tournament.
On the other hand, Akanksha showcased her dominance right from the start of her first-round women's singles match, completely overwhelming Telangana's Paavanii Paathak with a score of 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets, exhibiting exceptional baseline play.
The second seed's remarkable speed allowed her to break Paavanii's serve effortlessly, culminating in a convincing victory.
In addition to the esteemed titles, winners will receive prize money from a total pool exceeding Rs 21.55 Lakh and Kit Allowance in junior categories. Those who emerge victorious and the runners-up in the U16 and U14 singles events will also be awarded a Tennis scholarship of ₹25,000 each.
