Ranji Trophy Final: Paras Dogra Penalized for Head-Butting K.V. Aneesh
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hubbali, Feb 25 (NationPress) Jammu and Kashmir's captain Paras Dogra has incurred a penalty of 50 percent of his match fee and received two demerit points for head-butting Karnataka's substitute fielder K.V. Aneesh during the second day of the Ranji Trophy final held at the KSCA Ground on Wednesday.
A BCCI official informed IANS that the fine was imposed right after the conclusion of day two's play. “Additionally, two demerit points have been recorded against Dogra, following the regulations for men's multi-day matches,” the official stated.
This incident took place in the 101st over of Jammu and Kashmir's first innings when Dogra and Kanhaiya Wadhawan were trying to stabilize their innings after some early difficulties. Following a boundary off a delivery from Prasidh Krishna, Dogra engaged in a verbal exchange with Aneesh, positioned at silly point.
Dogra then approached Aneesh and headbutted him while still wearing his helmet, prompting immediate action from the on-field umpires Rohan Pandit and Ulhas Gandhe, along with Karnataka opener Mayank Agarwal and captain Devdutt Padikkal. Later, Dogra was seen expressing apologies to Aneesh.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) confirmed its adherence to the ruling, emphasizing that the penalty aligns with existing standards set by the BCCI and the match referee's decision.
“What has occurred adheres to BCCI guidelines, and we must comply. Furthermore, we must respect the match referee's judgment for this final, who is Vengalil Narayanan Kutty,” a JKCA official told IANS.
A source from the Jammu and Kashmir team suggested that Dogra's action might have been impulsive. “We are still uncertain about the specific events on the field, but it appears that some sledging provoked this incident. Otherwise, a composed individual like Dogra would not typically react this way, especially during play,” noted the source.
Regarding the match, Dogra and Wadhawan both scored 70 runs, while Sahil Lotra remained not out on 57, leading Jammu and Kashmir, in pursuit of their first Ranji Trophy title, to a score of 527/6 in 126 overs before bad light curtailed play.
