Indian Wells, March 17 (NationPress) Following his triumph in securing his inaugural Masters 1000 title at the Indian Wells Open by defeating Holger Rune with a score of 6-2, 6-2 in just over an hour, Jack Draper is resolute in his commitment to continual improvement to replicate such achievements.
Along with clinching his third ATP Tour title and his first on outdoor hard courts, Draper is set to make his debut in the Top 10 rankings, climbing seven positions to No. 7 in the ATP Rankings.
“I’m not overly focused on the outcomes, whether it’s rankings or tournaments. I believe I’ve accomplished a lot in the past year, and that hasn’t stemmed from setting specific goals. While it’s crucial to believe in oneself when setting goals, without the necessary effort, sacrifice, and consistent work, success is unattainable,” Draper stated.
“My coach and I approach each day by structuring our practice and everything I do in a consistent manner, minimizing the occurrence of bad days. So, even when I do experience a challenging day, my overall performance remains high.
“Clearly, I aspire to be an exceptional player and achieve remarkable feats in this sport, but my primary objective is to keep enhancing my skills and remain dedicated. I understand there is a long journey ahead. I am very ambitious and refuse to settle; I plan to continue pushing forward,” the British player added.
Draper started strongly against the two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, capturing the first set in a rapid 23 minutes, a performance Alcaraz described as “one of the worst sets of tennis he’d ever played.”
“Yesterday marked a significant moment for me. I hadn’t experienced that level of energy on the court for some time, likely due to the emotional toll from my match against Carlos and the atmosphere surrounding it,” Draper reflected.
“The third set from yesterday was crucial for me, as I entered today’s final aware that I might feel the same emotions. Admittedly, I felt somewhat nervous before playing, but once I stepped onto the court, I felt incredible,” he concluded.
