Mumbai, March 10 (NationPress) Ellyse Perry, who currently leads the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) with 323 runs in just seven innings, expressed her gratitude for being part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) due to the unwavering support the franchise receives from its fans.

“I recall attending the inaugural IPL match where Brendan McCullum scored approximately 150 runs for KKR. At that moment, I thought it was the most remarkable thing ever. Now, being on the same field with a packed stadium so loud that communication is nearly impossible—it’s simply amazing. All of us at RCB are incredibly fortunate to represent this team because the support is nothing short of extraordinary,” Ellyse shared on the RCB Podcast - Bold and Beyond.

Having debuted for Australia at the age of 17, Ellyse reminisced about her initial years in international cricket. “It's amusing. I’m not sure how much you truly learn in those early stages because everything feels new. You often observe young players stepping in their first year, and it appears effortless for them. This is because they have no expectations and no prior experiences to influence them. It’s a wonderful time to play as you embrace everything with ease and play with great freedom.”

She also reflected on the advancements in women's cricket since her debut. “When I first started, very few of our matches were broadcasted, perhaps one or two a year, usually leading into men's matches. The coverage often followed the same narrative: ‘Do you wish you were compensated more for playing? Do you wish you received more recognition?’ The storyline surrounding women's sports remained stagnant.”

“Fast forward 15 to 20 years to now, every match is televised, we have 30,000 spectators at the stadium every night, and women now have the chance to pursue careers in sports full-time, whether as players, coaches, administrators, or executives.”

Although RCB has not qualified for the WPL 2025 playoffs, Ellyse has stood out as the franchise’s top performer this season. The experienced all-rounder mentioned that her eagerness to learn and connect with new individuals in the WPL has been significant motivators for her performance on the field.

“I believe I have managed to keep learning, which has been the most encouraging aspect. The opportunity to continually learn something new and face challenges is always present. Particularly in women’s cricket, each year it just gets a bit bigger, a bit better.”

“It’s been incredible to witness the surge of domestic talent emerging. Meeting numerous young players, whether at RCB or other franchises, has highlighted the immense opportunities available for them.”

“As this tournament advances, I observe increased opportunities for young girls to play and develop, and they are exceptionally talented. It’s a bit intimidating! Each year I return, there are fresh faces raising the standards even higher,” she concluded.
