New Delhi, Dec 7 (NationPress) Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn expressed that the comeback of India's vice-captain Shubman Gill for the upcoming T20I series, commencing on December 9 in Cuttack, is bound to generate significant enthusiasm among Indian fans.
Gill had been sidelined due to a neck injury sustained during the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata last month. After undergoing rehabilitation, he has been cleared by the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Following India's 2-1 ODI series victory over South Africa on Saturday, head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed Gill's availability for the five-match T20I series.
“It seems like he's back for India, which has got every fan in the nation thrilled to see him return,” Steyn remarked in a video shared by Star Sports on their ‘X’ account, discussing three key aspects to anticipate in the T20I series.
In addition to Gill, India's squad also gains from the return of seam-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who was out of the game due to a quadriceps injury from the Asia Cup in September.
Steyn also voiced his enthusiasm for the return of South African batter David Miller, who is back in action after missing the T20I series against Pakistan due to a grade one right hamstring strain.
“He’s back for South Africa. The powerful David Miller can hit the ball out of the park. I’m eager to see him play,” Steyn added.
After the inaugural match in Cuttack, India and South Africa will face off in T20I matches in New Chandigarh (December 11), Dharamsala (December 14), Lucknow (December 17), and Ahmedabad (December 19).
“The last time I witnessed South Africa play India in a T20 format was during a World Cup final in Barbados. It’s going to be an exciting encounter, and I look forward to being part of it,” concluded Steyn.
